About the Role
As an Associate Director of Technology, you will play a leadership role spanning people, tactical execution, and strategy within the organization. You will be responsible for a scope covering multiple teams, technology domains, or major cross-functional mandates within the studio and Activision. You will actively contribute to defining the technological direction across several areas, aligning priorities with business objectives , and supporting the growth of the managers and teams under your responsibility.
In this role, you will oversee the evolution of major technology initiatives in a multidisciplinary environment, including the game engine, tools, automation, and more. You will work closely with other studio leaders, Activision partner teams, and external collaborators to align roadmaps and advance technology in service of our games.
You will also act as an ambassador for the technology vision by fostering cross-team alignment, execution quality, talent development, and the evolution of management and engineering practices. You will also play a key role as a senior manager within the Montreal leadership team, contributing to its evolution and positioning.
This position is based in our Montreal office and follows an in-office work model of four days per week. Working arrangements may evolve based on business needs.
Responsibilities
Through organizational leadership, manager leadership, strategic alignment, and technology direction, you will be responsible for :
Defining, structuring, and evolving technology roadmaps for a portfolio of mandates, in alignment with studio and franchise priorities;
Overseeing the planning, execution, and follow-up of multiple initiatives in parallel, while working closely with Production, Activision studios, and external partners to ensure delivery remains aligned with project, quality, and performance goals;
Contributing to architectural direction, technology risk management, and the continuous improvement of quality, reliability, performance, and maintainability standards;
Maintaining an overall view of system health and key metrics, and guiding priorities to support live games as well as in-development deliverables;
Stepping into complex or sensitive situations requiring judgment, influence, and coordination across multiple teams or stakeholders;
Leading discussion groups with multiple stakeholders, and representing technology issues, priorities, and opportunities at the appropriate level within the organization;
Contributing to the establishment, evolution, and maintenance of the studio's technology standards, practices, and guidelines;
Actively supporting the development of the managers under your responsibility by fostering their autonomy, growth, and the effectiveness of their teams;
Contributing to recruitment, attraction, and retention strategies to support the organization's current and future needs.
Requirements
8 years of experience managing programming and technology teams in the video game industry;
At least 3 completed video game projects as a manager;
Experience managing multiple teams or technology domains;
Demonstrated ability to operate comfortably in complex environments, manage competing priorities, and make decisions with limited direction;
Deep understanding of technology challenges related to video game development, including game engines, tools, pipelines, automation, and more;
Excellent ability to build strong relationships with internal and external partners, and to collaborate effectively with multiple stakeholders;
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both French and English;
Experience in talent development, manager coaching, and building high-performing teams;
Strong understanding of AAA game production realities and the technical, organizational, and human constraints that come with them;
Knowledge of tools and approaches related to AI applied to programming, productivity, or technology pipelines;
Strong proficiency in multiple programming languages and an excellent ability to understand and adapt to different technologies.
