KOVR CBS13 in Sacramento is looking for an outstanding, proven leader and performer to head our weather department. Top candidates must have superior forecasting and storytelling skills. A knowledge of Northern California microclimates is a plus. Must have expert knowledge of The Weather Company system tools to develop, produce, and deliver high-quality weather forecasts on-air, on digital, social, and our CBS News Sacramento OTT stream. Will be required to report and produce weather reports live on location. Ability to shoot and edit video is preferred. Must have experience with sustained live coverage of severe weather. Regular involvement in community and station-sponsored events is required. AMS or NWA seal is preferred, as is knowledge of climate change and it's impact on regional weather. Chief Meteorologist will work with News Director on weather strategy and execution across all platforms.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
• B.S. Degree in Meteorology or Earth Sciences
• At least 10 Years on air experience weather casting and weather producing
• WSI weather system knowledge and ability to employ all functions on multiple platforms
• Maintain a steadfast commitment to forecasting accuracy
• Ability to live field report and write packages
• Ability to drive and operate our Mobile Weather Lab vehicle
• Experience with severe weather coverage, including but not limited to earthquakes, wildfires, flooding, mudslides, and severe thunderstorms
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
• AMS/NWA Seal preferred
• Ability to shoot and edit video

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Hiring Salary Range: $165,000.00 - 195,000.00.
The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
