GENERAL INFORMATION
JOB TITLE: Director, Unscripted Series

POSITION SUMMARY :
Reporting to the Chief Content Officer, the Director of Unscripted Series will be responsible for advancing new unscripted series projects through the Shondaland development pipeline with urgency, vision, awareness of the company's global brand, and a keen sense of the shifting strategic landscape both at Netflix and across the industry. In this newly created role, you will be responsible for establishing and scaling a key vertical at Shondaland, operating with the independence and drive necessary to ensure its long-term success.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Development Pipeline: Act as sole creative development executive on projects the Creative Partner and CCO primarily drive, championing creative innovation, keeping alive momentum, and streamlining processes. Continuously update covering agents on the kinds of projects we want to produce.
• IP and Talent Scouting: Specifically target IP and talent to present both internally and to unscripted showrunners. Continually and inclusively research, meet, and build relationships with potential unscripted partners, showrunners, talent and executives at network.
• Project Pitches: Identify pitches worth hearing, and join pitches with CCO and Creative Partner to evaluate which are worth bringing to Netflix. Contribute to pitching strategy and act as point in building external pitch decks and crafting casting reels with both internal teams and external partners.
• Internal Presentations: Present regularly and in a timely manner on: talent to know; competitive programming; project status; incoming pitches, decks and IP; and strategies to move active projects forward.
• Gap Analysis: Identify what's missing from the current lineup to generate brand expansion and further curate the company's development slate, with a keen awareness of Netflix's mandate.
• Creative Notes: For projects in active development, generate and submit the first draft of producer notes on all materials.
• In Production and Post-Production : Implement systems to keep CCO and Creative Partner up to speed on production schedule and issues, collaborating closely with the Physical Production team. Review dailies each day to ensure the production is looking and feeling the way it was intended, flagging any issues immediately for CCO. Cover set as needed and weigh in on casting, as asked. Generate the first draft of producer notes on all edits to CCO.
• Marketing and Publicity: Liaise with internal and external teams, as required, to ensure everyone is across the same game plan, timeline and messaging.
• Grow Brand Awareness: Build relationships with talent representatives and executives to earmark future potential business opportunities, and to continue growing Shondaland brand awareness.
• Synergy : Remain holistically mindful of the full scale and synergy of Shondaland, and make connections, recommendations, and pitch ideas interdepartmentally. Duties will include ensuring constant communication with executives in other departments at Shondaland.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
• Strong awareness of and appreciation for the Shondaland brand and mission
• Experience working directly on an unscripted production on set preferred
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and organizational abilities
• Demonstrated ability to quickly develop internal and external relationships at all levels
• Ability to demonstrate extreme discretion and creative problem-solving on multiple projects simultaneously
• Strong network of contacts at talent agencies and management companies
• Familiarity with key pitch building software
